Folding candy gift boxes are a great choice because they are functional and visually appealing, making your treats look great.  Many use these boxes for sweet treats like truffles, pralines, or caramel apples.

In this guide, we'll explore different types of boxes used for confectionery and explain how to assemble them. We'll also provide guidance on which box subtype is ideal for your candy type.

Setup Boxes

Rigid Setup Candy Boxes

Our rigid Setup Boxes are the ultimate in luxury chocolate boxes.  They are a two-peace box with a lid and base and are made of thick chipboard. They are wrapped in either color or designer paper to give a beautiful finish. Setup Candy Gift Boxes typically hold one layer of candy, and trays are available to fit the boxes. No assembly is required.

Most of our rigid candy boxes are produced in America. Candy store owners love these boxes for their sophisticated look and use them to sell their candy in gift sets during peak holiday seasons such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter. Retailers often wrap the base of chocolate boxes with shrink wrap.  This allows customers to easily open the box and see the chocolates inside without causing any damage or contamination. You can add a bow, stretch loop, and tag to keep the box secure while also giving it a decorative touch for display on your shelves.

Candy Box Sizing

Candy Box Sizes

Pro tip: Look for the measuring photo in each section to learn how to measure each box type.

Candy box sizes are commonly referred to in the number of pounds (lb) of candy the box can hold, as candy makers usually sell their candy by weight.  For example: “¼ lb candy box” means the box can hold one-quarter of a pound of candy.

This system makes it easy for confectionary stores to pick the box size according to their price point. Consider size based on these factors: What will your box be used for?  Are you gifting a large quantity or small treats? Are you selling multiple quantity options of candy in your store?

Here are the typical sizes you will see on our product listing:

  • ¼ lb (holds one-quarter of a pound of candy),
  • ½ lb (holds one-half of a pound)
  • 1 lb (holds one pound)
  • 2 lb (holds two pounds)
  • Size can also be listed in ounces, such as 3 oz, 8 oz, 16 oz, and 24 oz chocolate boxes.
  • We also provide the dimensions shown in inches, as well.

If you are gifting treats, smaller size options like ¼ lb or 3 oz boxes would work well.  If you are selling or giving a large number of chocolate truffles, anywhere from ½ lb (8 oz) to 5 lb boxes are great options.

Automatic Bottom Boxes

Automatic Bottom Boxes

These boxes are also referred to as “Autobottom” and are incredibly convenient and time-saving. They are a one-piece folding box with a top-tuck lid that features a pre-glued bottom that automatically locks into place when the box is assembled. They are the most popular and inexpensive of all the candy boxes and come in a wide selection of colors and seasonal designs. We offer candy trays that fit these boxes to create a more formal and organized candy display. To manually assemble them, start by gently pressing the sides inward to form the box shape and see the bottom start to lock place. Next, fold down the pre-glued bottom flaps, ensuring they interlock securely.  Finally, fill the box with your choice of treats and fold the lid to tuck into the box.
